This is a lovely desk, especially for the price, don't get me wrong, But here are a couple of cons/things to be aware of. This is a HUGE pain in the ass to put together. Especially for one person. It took a number of hours. All of the tools and screws etc. were there, so nothing missing, but the instructions and diagrams require a bunch of head scratching. You really do have to assemble every single component, fair enough, but each piece of wood has a code letter sticker to identify them, and many of those were incorrectly labeled. Not all of the screws, dowels and bolts fit smoothly, and a few of the diagrams appeared to have sections of the desk in the wrong places (screw holes shown upside down for example). You have to do a lot of your own math and and scrutinizing of each piece to get it right. if you're hoping for IKEA simplicity, this is not it. My only other gripe is that some of the edges of the desk where the melamine veneer is attached to the wood looks a little scuffed and poorly glued in some places, but again for the price it's not too bad. You have to look fairly hard. I bought this for a mid-century/60's style office I was bulding and it looks great. It has drawers, they work pretty well (left one a little stiff), so that helps for a clean desk surface as this guy is on the small side. Which is what I wanted, but I recommend you measure your space first. I am using it for a laptop, a writing pad and a small lamp. Not much else will fit. I mounted my large external monitor to the wall above it and there is no way it would have fit on the desk without it looking cluttered.I am deducting one star because of the assembly issues. Never in a million years would I have tried to take it apart to return it. I would have sold it on Craigslist at a loss. Hope this helps.Looks good but not impress on materials. Not easy to assembling on the legs, holes not on right position; the drawer knobs are very sharp, need to replace after a few scratches! Can't complain for that price!Very complex to put together and I am the handy one in our family. Pictures only so you have to read the builders mind and retry things a few times. Ended up having to hammer some nails in due to mistakes along the way.A little smaller than I expected. This product arrived covered in scratches and scuff marks. The metal was literally peeling away from the legs of the desk with pieces hanging off, despite being covered in styrofoam and plastic... Must have been packaged in poor condition. I'm going to have to return it, this is a nightmare. This is probably the only article of furniture from Amazon where I was pleased with the finished product. It does look like a pretty great desk, and though the materials are typical of Ikea or Target, it's going to hold up for years. It's heavy, the legs hold it still and level, and the three drawers are functional and feel good moving in and out. Great little desk.It is kinda small, at four feet wide and about two feet deep, but it's a great size for my monitor and keyboard and a textbook or something on the side.Assembly is ridiculous. My spouse and I took about eight hours, granted we were goofing off most of the time, but we had to check and recheck and still go back on mistakes. Manufacturer, I have an idea: Put assembly videos on youtube. Leverage the age we're in. Who needs these picture instructions in 2018? At any rate, use a cordless drill. We always add little drops of glue to the screws on these sorts of build-your-furniture projects, and the resulting furniture is always rock solid. After a lot of laughing at ourselves, we had this thing put together.I generally kinda resent when manufacturers outsource most of the factory to the customers. But this one really takes it to the next level! It's probably not a big deal, but it took up the better part of a day off. Add up the hours, and the value of the cheap desk kinda evaporates. This is only an average value, all things considered. The primary thing I like about this desk is the combination of colors and materials. The birch brown with white, coupled with shiny exposed metal in a traditional classroom style is nice. I would say something more emphatic, but the low quality is quickly apparent, which takes away from the aesthetics. If you are considering this for a classroom, I would advise against it because of how flimsy it is.My first impression on opening the box was not good. The main "wood" piece had a gash down the middle and a chunk knocked out of one corner. The instructions do not include actual words, so you need to figure out the diagrams. There are too many screw types to deal with and overall a poorly thought out design. The wood is very soft, so you need to be careful not to go right through it. One step involves attaching the drawer sliders, which seemed impossible until I noticed the tiny dents that the screws were meant to rest in. The metal base was the worst part, with a warp that kept me from being able to tighten one bolt. I stripped it out and thankfully there was an extra, but I had to leave it loose. Once together, it is not that strong, but with careful older child/adult use, it should hold up for a while.I am no stranger to cheap veneer furniture, but this is worse than most. Still, if you just need a work space with a little style and there is a deep sale, it could serve your needs.
